This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations for Informational Systems with Applications
DownloadSpring 2022
The core innovation of this thesis lies in studying reflected backward stochastic differential equations (RBSDE hereafter) for informational systems. An informational system is a system where there is discrepancy in the information received by agents over time. In this thesis, we restrict to the...

Spring 2024
We consider the Cauchy problem to the Magneto-Hydrodynamics Equations (MHD) in R^3, and present specific criteria for which its corresponding energy equality holds. Specifically, we show that very weak solutions to the MHD equations (in the distributional sense) satisfy the energy equality,...

Regularized Tensor Quantile Regression for Functional Data Analysis with Applications to Neuroimaging
DownloadFall 2019
With accelerating technological advancements, functional data analysis is of ever-growing importance in statistics, engineering, and medicine as the collection, storage, and analysis of data becomes ingrained in every aspect of modern life beyond any one field of study. From continuous biometric...

Relationships between network connectivity and global dynamics of complex dynamical systems
DownloadSpring 2016
The global dynamics of complex systems is investigated in this thesis, using the framework of coupled dynamical systems. For a coupled dynamical system on an interaction network, we show the impact of the connectivity of the interaction network on its dynamical behavior. We lay particular...

Fall 2017
Herein, a new methodology is developed to replicate functions, measures and stochastic processes onto a compact metric space. Each replica object is a weak or strong modification of the original object, so many results are easily established for the replica objects and then transferred back to...

Representability of Algebraic CHOW Groups of Complex Projective Complete Intersections and Applications to Motives
DownloadSpring 2011
In 1990 James D. Lewis made a conjecture on the representability of algebraic Chow groups of projective algebraic manifolds. We prove that his conjecture holds for smooth complex complete intersections satisfying a numerical condition and consider some applications to motives.

Representations of affine truncations of representation involutive-semirings of Lie algebras and root systems of higher type
DownloadSpring 2011
An important component of a rational conformal field theory is a representation of a certain involutive-semiring. In the case of Wess-Zumino-Witten models, the involutive-semiring is an affine truncation of the representation involutive-semiring of a finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra. ...

Fall 2019
In the first part of this dissertation, we prove a generalization of a theorem of Drinfeld’s which allows one to rebuild the Yangian of an arbitrary simple Lie algebra starting from any of its finite-dimensional modules satisfying a non-triviality condition. This is achieved using the so-called...

Fall 2018
Optimal treatment regime, also called individualized treatment rule, is to seek a rule that assigns a treatment to the subject based on its covariates. It can be used in many areas such as: clinical studies, policy making and economics. In recent years, estimating optimal treatment regime has...
