This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Imposing constraints on the class of the available self-financing strategies may eliminate the possibility of using replicating or superhedging strategies, which leads to the problem of partial hedging. In the present work, the partial hedging problem is investigated from the viewpoint of the...

Solar updraft towers offers a simple and alternative method of generating electricity. However, it is unclear on how to build a tall, free standing structure that can withstand the unpredictable and destructive force of the wind. A tower consisting of stacked inflatable toroidal elements have...

Human food production activities can dominate natural systems, altering ecological and evolutionary aspects of the environment. Disease-mediated interactions are of particular concern. For example, parasites may "spill-over'' from farms to wildlife. Parasites isolated on farms can evolve...

With the development of modern technology, researchers in various fields are equipped with powerful tools to collect ultrahigh dimensional data, where the number of features p could grow exponentially with the sample size n. It is challenging to extract useful information due to the huge number...

Envelopes, introduced by Cook et al. (2007), encompass a class of methods for increasing efficiency in multivariate analyses without altering traditional objectives. Envelopes have been successfully incorporated to a variety of regression models from generalized linear models to quantile...

In this thesis, we establish some ergodic theorems related to Ap(G), the Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebra of a locally compact group G. This thesis is divided in two main portions. The first part is primarily concerned with the study of ergodic sequences in Ap(G) and with a newly introduced notion of...

This thesis develops three major essays on Arbitrage Theory, Market’s Viabil- ity and Informational Markets. The first essay (Chapter 3) elaborates the exact connections among the No-Unbounded-Profit-with-Bounded-Risk (called NUPBR hereafter) condition, the existence of the numeraire portfolio,...
