This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Sampling, employed as a special type of mixing, allows using a low local frequency to down-convert the high-frequency RF signal. Existing work of sampling is limited to analog sampling. If a high-speed digital sampler is directly applied to sample the RF signal, the generated output will be the...

Microvalves are an essential part of microfluidic systems for chemical and biological analysis. However, the lack of high performance materials has hindered the development of microactuators capable of driving valves with combined rapid response and high closing forces. Paraffin-based phase...

Landslides include various forms of geological mass movements such as falls, slides and flows under the force of gravity. Predictions of landslide kinematics and dynamics require knowledge of flow behaviour and mathematical modeling. Research into the flow behaviour of granular materials has...

High Surface Area Nanoelectromechanical Systems via the Integration of Glancing Angle Deposition Thin Films
DownloadFall 2013
High surface area nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) are fabricated using glancing angle deposition (GLAD) thin films as the high surface area layer. The GLAD films are deposited on already-released NEMS cantilevers and doubly clamped beams (DCBs) with good uniformity. The resonance frequencies...

Direct desulfuization of syngas is an important measure to further increase the efficiency of IGCC systems. Solid-phase, metal oxide adsorbents which sequester the sulfur by converting H2S to a metal sulfide are the only desulfurization technology capable of withstanding the combustion...
