This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2014
Wireless sensing of abnormal intraocular pressure (IOP) levels associated with Glaucoma, a leading cause of blindness, was first proposed in the late 1960’s. While much research has been applied in the intervening time, a suitable commercially available wireless IOP monitoring instrument remains...

Design and Development of a UAV System for Multispectral Imaging and Remote Sensing Applications
DownloadSpring 2018
The increasing use of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) over the past few years has opened the door to a large number of applications in research, commercial, and industrial areas. UAVs have become an efficient, cost effective, and environmentally friendly (less or zero CO2 emissions) platform...

Spring 2023
AlbertaSat is a group of researchers and students at the University of Alberta who are developing low-cost satellites with open-source software that follow the CubeSat form factor. It is one of the projects funded by the Canadian CubeSat Project, whose goal is to provide a hands-on satellite...

Spring 2013
Highly parallel VLSI implementations of low-density parity-check (LDPC) block code decoders have a large number of interconnections, which can result in designs with low logic density. Bit-serial architectures have been developed that reduce the number of wires needed. However, they do not...

Fall 2010
We have developed several generations of high voltage (HV) integrated circuits that provide micro-scale platforms for lab-on-a-chip applications. This thesis presents novel HV devices and circuits that lead to further miniaturization and minimize the dependence on off-chip components. A...

Spring 2011
This thesis is an exploration into the design of configurable analog block (CAB) for field programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) designed in modern complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technologies. Specifically, this thesis develops a single configurable analog block (CAB) using an...

Miniaturized genetic analysis systems based on microelectronic and microfluidic technologies
DownloadFall 2010
Genetic analysis is not widely used for disease diagnostics as it is costly and very labour/infrastructure intensive. We believe that by employing both microelectronic and microfabrication technologies, we are able to integrate multiple functionalities into a single, manufacturable, inexpensive...

Parallel-Node Low-Density Parity-Check Convolutional Code Encoder and Decoder Architectures
DownloadSpring 2010
We present novel architectures for parallel-node low-density parity-check convolutional code (PN-LDPC-CC) encoders and decoders. Based on a recently introduced implementation-aware class of LDPC-CCs, these encoders and decoders take advantage of increased node-parallelization to simultaneously...

Fall 2011
We demonstrate the feasibility of USB-powered portable genetic amplification. One of the central processes within medical or biological genetic methods is polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Through this amplification, more quantities of the specified genetic target can be obtained for analysis and...
