This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2018
Human genomic data are being generated at an increasing rate owing to the advancement of high-throughput technology. Wider availability of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics data motivated complex study questions with the intention to gain higher degree of understanding of...

We study linear estimation based on perturbed data when performance is measured by a matrix norm of the expected residual error, in particular, the case in which there are many unknowns, but the “best” estimator is sparse, or has small L1-norm. We propose a Lasso-like procedure that finds the...

Statistical analysis of multiuser and narrowband interference and superior system designs for impulse radio ultra-wide bandwidth wireless
DownloadFall 2011
Ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) wireless is a fast emerging technology which exploits major advances and offers unprecedented opportunity to impact wireless communications. In UWB systems, several users should coexist viably in the same coverage area. The multiuser interference (MUI) caused by...

Statistical and In-field Challenges Involved in Quantifying Crop Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) and Spatial Soil Fertility in Central Alberta
DownloadSpring 2020
Modern agriculture faces the conundrum of a looming threat of food scarcity and heightened pressure on natural resources to address and sustain increasing food demand. Improving nutrient use efficiency is crucial to sustainable food production. It can be helpful in tackling this critical...

Fall 2014
In this thesis, time-varying behaviour, nonlinearity and switching dynamics are generally treated as multi-modal behaviour. Two multi-model modelling techniques, i.e., the linear parameter varying (LPV) technique and the switched modelling technique, are investigated to model the multi-modal...
