This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2022
Wetting is the process where solid surfaces attempt to create a common interface when they come in contact with the liquid droplets. To characterize the wetting and spreading between a liquid droplet and a solid surface, various techniques have been established. The most common technique have...

Advanced Integer Linear Programming Techniques for Large Scale Grid-Based Location Problems
DownloadSpring 2013
Many real-world facility location problems can be approximated by a grid-based system of small sized cells, which can then be used to model a heterogeneous demand distribution. We can also relate an amount of supply for each cell from its supply distribution relationships with the various...

Advanced Musculoskeletal Modeling and Kinematic Assessments for Comparing Occupational Exoskeletons Effectiveness and Muscle Dynamics in Laboratory and In-Field Environments
DownloadFall 2024
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of occupational exoskeletons and assistive tools in reducing ergonomic risks associated with physically demanding tasks, specifically focusing on the comparison of in-lab and in-field assessments and the utilization of advanced musculoskeletal modeling...

Advancements in Metered-Dose Inhaler Technology: Feasibility of Excipients and Particle Size Prediction
DownloadSpring 2024
Chronic respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are one of the leading causes of death in the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 262 million people were diagnosed with Asthma in 2019 alone. Among current drug delivery systems for the...

Spring 2023
The fluid mechanics literature suggests that the ability to manipulate the very-large-scale motions (VLSMs) that exist within turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) would provide influence over the unwanted drag forces, noise, and vibrations associated with these flows. The ability to suppress these...

Advances on Fabrication and Application of Through Silicon Via for Radio Frequency Circuits
DownloadSpring 2019
Through silicon via (TSV) has been considered as an astonishing milestone in the evolution of three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC), because of its exclusive and pivotal function of providing signal exchanging paths in the horizontal direction to stacked layers efficiently. Unfortunately,...
