Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2019
This work focuses on the implementation and validation of the implicit Total Variation Diminishing (TVD) schemes for modelling of two-dimensional multiphase flow. The TVD schemes are designed to mitigate the numerical diffusion at the interface where discontinuities of fluid properties exist...

Increasing wildfire growth modelling decision support using ensemble weather forecasts over the province of Alberta, Canada
DownloadFall 2015
Across Alberta, wildfires ignite each fire season and a small number achieve a size greater than 100 hectares, which account for the vast majority of the area burned. These fires often require large suppression efforts that include wildfire growth simulation modelling in order to understand their...

Mohammadhosseinzadehgolabchi, Alireza
As the construction industry is prone to various hazards, its rate of injuries and fatalities are among the highest. As a result, health and safety has emerged as a crucial aspect of any construction project. Among occupational injuries, Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) are reported...

Spring 2011
Physical simulations are in general very computationally intensive and required large and costly computing resources. Most of those simulations are rarely interactive as the link between visualization, interaction, and simulation is too slow. The recent development of parallel Graphic Processing...

Investigating Light Solvent Aided Process in Cold Lake Oil-Sand Reservoir Using Experimental and Numerical Approaches
DownloadSpring 2019
Steam assisted- gravity drainage (SAGD) is the main in-situ bitumen recovery process in which saturated steam is injected into the bitumen zone. However, it has some drawbacks, which include high-energy consumption and significant environmental concerns. Solvent Aided Process (SAP) is a method...

Fall 2011
Computer modeling is critical for catalyst layer (CL) design in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Water-filled and ionomer-filled agglomerate models have been suggested as representations of the CL microstructure. In this thesis, improved water-filled and ionomer-filled agglomerate models...

Fall 2011
Using data from artificial gas mixtures, global kinetic models for a platinum diesel oxidation catalyst are developed. The modelling of CO and C3H6 was inspired by the classical work of Voltz et al.[1], while the modelling of NO and C3H6 was based on the earlier work of Pandya[2], Mulla et...

Kinetics studies of chemical reactions and quality changes in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) enriched milk treated with high-pressure sterilization
DownloadSpring 2014
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a bioactive lipid naturally found in milk, is thermally degraded through oxidation during thermal processing. Finding alternatives to enhance the retention of CLA is challenging. In this thesis, high-pressure sterilization (HPS) was used to enhance CLA retention in...

Lean-Mod: An Approach to Modular Construction Manufacturing Production Efficiency Improvement
DownloadSpring 2014
Modular construction manufacturing (MCM) is superior to the current on-site construction system which is hampered by inefficiency and material and process waste. Modular buildings are potentially built through a more efficient and cost-effective method, but in the current manufacturing-based...

Learning Disabilities and Methodologies of Harm: Indigeneity, Pathologization, and Ambiguity in the Psychological Disciplines
DownloadFall 2020
In response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the Psychological Foundation of Canada (PFC) issued a joint statement identifying the harms that psychological research and intervention have caused Indigenous communities, while...
