SSHRC Awarded IDG 2016: The project will conduct a critical disability analysis of the discourses and practices of disability inclusion within a wide range of sport and recreation programs in Canada. 'Inclusive movement programs' have been internationally championed as a basic right of people with disabilities, and a vehicle for their broader social inclusion (United Nations, 2008). The Canadian Government (2013) celebrates the existing inclusivity of its movement programs, in particular, disability sport. These claims, however, contradict Statistics Canada’s (2013) report that only 3% of people with disabilities have regular access to organized sport. This research will create the first national database of inclusive movement programs in Canada, and the first study of inclusive movement communities in Canada, helping to identify trends and implications in relation to the production of disability, inclusion, and exclusion at a national level.
