SSHRC PDG awarded 2023: This project will be the first large-scale, multi-method study to comprehensively examine autistic written language development with a focus on understanding the intersections between writing products, writing processes, and autistic identity. Over three years, we will recruit a sample of 150 autistic adolescents (14-18 yrs w/o intellectual disability) to participate. Our proposed project is responsive to calls from members of the autistic community and professional organizations, which have urged researchers to implement a community-driven approach when conducting autism-focused research. By directly incorporating autistic perspectives throughout all phases of the project, we help to ensure that our research is inclusive, transparent, and relevant to their needs.
