  • Author(s) / Creator(s)
  • SSHRC IG awarded 2021: This proposed project is directly relevant to the Sport Participation Research Initiative (SPRI) competition. This proposed, longitudinal, empirically-driven project will address various issues related to participation of newcomers in sport and leisure in a specific urban setting. The research will support strategies and interventions to increase the diversity of Canadians participating in sport, as well as the retention, training, and recruitment of volunteers, athletes, coaches, and leaders associated with the Free Play for Kids program. It will also address issues pertaining to the monitoring and evaluation of participation and experiences in the Free Play for Kids community, as well as the experiences of parents. The proposed project will also address and evaluate programming for underrepresented groups by a non-profit organization.
