Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2021
Cavalcante Araujo Neto, Antonio
HDBSCAN* is a hierarchical density-based clustering method that requires a single parameter mpts, a smoothing factor that implicitly influences which clusters are more detectable in the resulting clustering hierarchy. While a small change in mpts typically leads to a small change in the...

Spring 2021
It is not trivial to understand the underlying principle of polymer dynamics due to its wide range of applications in our daily lives. This thesis mainly focuses on the theory and simulation of polyethylene melts, which are not only restricted to the classic linear structure, but also extended to...

Spring 2021
The dairy industry in Canada has undergone huge changes in the last few decades. While the average annual milk production per cow grew over three times by 2015 (average rose to 8.65 Hectolitres per and reached 9.5 Hectolitres in 2018) from 1995 levels (2.5 Hectolitres a year per cow on average),...

À la recherche du zeitgeist : une analyse du populisme dans les discours de Jason Kenney (2016-2019)
DownloadFall 2021
Jason Kenney has been considered a populist by many in the media since his transition to Albertan provincial politics in 2016. However, these discussions are often lacking clear justifications and definitions leading to confusion regarding what is considered populist behavior, and what we should...

A Machine Learning Approach to Predict Production Time in Industrialized Building Construction
DownloadFall 2021
Industrialized building construction is an effective approach for improving the performance and management of construction projects by offering higher quality products, minimized environmental impacts, and improved schedule predictability. The industrialized building construction approach...

A Model for the Solubility of Anhydrite in H2O-NaCl fluids from 25 to 800 °C, 0.1 to 1400 MPa, and 0 to 60 wt% NaCl: Applications to Hydrothermal Ore-forming Systems
DownloadFall 2021
Anhydrite (CaSO4) is a common gangue mineral in hydrothermal ore-forming systems, though currently there is no robust numerical model for the solubility of anhydrite in H2O-NaCl hydrothermal fluids. Here, we present a thermodynamic model for the solubility of anhydrite in saline aqueous fluids...

Fall 2021
Middleton, Steven Mark William
A numerical model and software interface for the design and modelling of Stirling engines was presented. This model was developed to suit low-temperature Stirling engines, those that run at source temperature of less than 150 °C and run at speeds where temporarily developed losses become...
