Characterization, restoration, and assembly of fungal communities in lodgepole pine forests impacted by recent disturbances
DownloadSpring 2021
Novel disturbance regimes have impacted boreal forest with unknown consequences for belowground communities and underlying ecological processes. Soil fungi are an integral component of belowground communities and are particularly sensitive to disturbances. In the Canadian boreal forest, common...

Characterization, Structure and Mechanism of Sulfide:quinone oxidoreductase (SQR) from Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans
DownloadFall 2015
A key enzyme in maintaining sulfide homeostasis is the membrane-associated flavoenzyme sulfide:quinone oxidoreductase (SQR) found in nearly all domains of life (except plants). SQR maintains a critical equilibrium between sulfide (H2S, HS- and S2-) and elemental sulfur (S0), coupling the...

Characterizing adaptive morphological features and resource selection of Rocky Mountain Sculpin (Cottus sp.), a species at risk in Canada
DownloadFall 2017
Freshwater biodiversity is presently one of the world’s largest conservation concerns. Both direct and indirect human activities contributing to waterway modifications, climate change, and habitat alteration are causing major declines in freshwater fish species richness and abundance. While these...

Characterizing an in-situ fraction of Photosynthetic Active Radiation product for implementation in the validation of MODIS-derived fraction of Photosynthetic Active Radiation products using continuous-wavelet transforms
DownloadSpring 2020
The goal of this thesis is to address the need to improve forestry monitoring and satellite validation techniques to better contextualize the effects that human-induced climate change is having on tropical dry forests (TDFs). Climate change is expected to change regional and global precipitation...
