This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Stability and Mobility of Foam Generated by Gas-Solvent/Surfactant and Gas-Solvent/Nanoparticles under Reservoir Conditions
DownloadFall 2016
Foam can be a feasible means to remedy the low sweep efficiency of solvent flooding (e.g., CO2 and/or C3H8) resulting from viscous fingering and gravity segregation. It works as a good mobility control agent that decreases the mobility difference between the displaced oil and the displacing...

Stability of Bilateral Teleoperation Systems: Effect of Sampled-data Control and Non-passivity or Strict-Passivity of Terminations
DownloadFall 2013
A bilateral teleoperation system comprises a human operator, a teleoperator, and an environment. The teleoperator consists of a master, a slave, their controllers, and a communication channel. Since the models of the terminations namely the human operator and the environment are unknown and/or...

Spring 2013
This research was aimed at developing porous ceramics as well as ceramic-metal composites that can be potentially used in Gen-IV supercritical water reactors (SCWR). The research mainly includes two parts: 1) fabricating and engineering the porous ceramics and porous ceramic-metal composite; 2)...

Spring 2018
Extended shear tab connections are efficient for both fabrication and erection where a beam would otherwise need to be coped to clear the flanges of the supporting member, and are therefore used extensively in industry. Stability issues can arise as the plate becomes longer and more slender, as...

Stability of Haptic Virtual Environments and Teleoperation Systems : Effect of Sampled-Data Control, Communication Delay and Active Operator
DownloadFall 2013
Three factors can jeopardize the stability of haptic virtual environments (HVE)s and teleoperation systems: (a) delayed communication channel, (b) controller discretization and (c) active operator intervention. This thesis studies the stability of these systems and investigates the simultaneous...

Stability of Magnetohydrodynamic Shear Flow Boundaries: Kelvin-Helmholtz Instabilities and Emission of Magnetosonic Waves
DownloadSpring 2015
boundaries for the Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability (KHI) is investigated. We have focused our attention on the emission of magnetosonic waves from the Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) unstable shear flow boundaries of MHD plasmas. We have shown for the first time that the Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability is a...

Spring 2013
Multilateral systems involving haptic information sharing between several users have recently found interesting applications in cooperative haptic teleoperation and haptic-assisted training. It is intuitively understood that some tasks are performed more effectively with two hands or through...
