Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

The Role of Sulfur Species in Establishing the Corrosion Reactions in Refinery Metallurgies
DownloadSpring 2016
This thesis is focused on the studying the role that model sulfur-containing molecules have in corrosion reactions on relevant metallurgies. This was done by using a design of experiments where a number of sulfur-based compounds were reacted with various metallurgies. The 8 model sulfur compounds...

The Roles of Constituent Minerals and Residual Bitumen in the Filtration of Alberta Oil Sands Tailings
DownloadFall 2022
The dewatering of Alberta oil sands tailings is one of the most challenging problems faced by the oil sands industry. Despite significant efforts in the past several decades, the industry still lacks viable technologies that can quickly dewater and reclaim the oil sands tailings and eliminate...

Spring 2019
Oil-assisted flotation is one of the most promising techniques in fine mineral particle recovery in the beneficiation of low-grade finely-disseminated ores. However, literature reports show that when non-polar oil is used in conjunction with different types of collectors, the flotation response...

Spring 2011
Scratch test and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) were applied to study the effects of thiosulfate on stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of Alloy 800 in simulated crevice solutions. The results showed that thiosulfate cathodically shifted the pitting potential of Alloy 800 significantly...

The Study of the Corrosion Behavior of Gas Nitriding Treated L80 Steel in Simulated Environment for the Slotted Liners of SAGD
DownloadSpring 2016
The oil sand in Alberta province is mainly extracted by Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technique which employs the slotted liners as the primary sand screening system. However, the slotted liners made of L80 carbon steel suffer from severe corrosion and erosion problems in the downhole...

The Use of Polyacrylamide as a Selective Depressant in the Separation of Chalcopyrite and Galena
DownloadSpring 2013
High molecular weight polyacrylamide (PAM) was tested as a potential selective depressant in the differential flotation separation of galena and chalcopyrite using potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) as a collector. In single mineral flotation, PAM depressed chalcopyrite while galena was floatable....
