Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Following from understandable concerns about costs of legal services, coupled with the need to ensure greater access to justice for citizens, it comes as no surprise that the number of Self-Represented Litigants, or SRLs, has been on the rise. But the ever-increasing presence of SRLs creates a...

Fall 2023
This thesis explores vibration monitoring of infrastructure or machinery through an uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) also commonly referred to as a drone. The vibration signature of an object may be used to assess the health of that object. This thesis looks at the means of acquiring this vibration...

Fall 2018
Vibration signal analysis has been widely used for planetary gearbox condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. Vibration signals are normally measured by sensors mounted on a planetary gearbox’s housing. A vibration signal contains rich information about the health condition of the machinery....

Fall 2011
Fault detection in rotating machinery has applications in fields such as wind turbines and helicopter transmissions. Detecting and diagnosing faults is important to maintenance planning, preventing equipment damage, and preventing failure. During this presentation, two novel signal-based methods...

Fall 2020
Gearboxes are widely used in modern power transmission systems such as wind turbines, helicopters, and railway vehicles. Due to inappropriate operation conditions or fatigue degradation, faults may develop in gears. If early faults cannot be detected and their severity assessed in a timely...

Vibrational absorption, vibrational circular dichroism and theoretical studies of methyl lactate molecules in solution phase and in argon matrices
DownloadSpring 2011
The infrared vibrational absorption (VA) and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra of methyl lactate in carbon tetrachloride and methanol have been measured in the 1000-1800 cm-1 region. Noticeable changes due to the solute self-aggregation and solvent-solute intermolecular...
