Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2010
A reliable estimate of the amount of oil or gas in a reservoir is required for development decisions. Uncertainty in reserve estimates affects resource/reserve classification, investment decisions, and development decisions. There is a need to make the best decisions with an appropriate level...

Re-Sampling the Ensemble Kalman Filter for Improved History Matching and Characterizations of Non-Gaussian and Non-Linear Reservoir Models
DownloadSpring 2015
Reservoir simulation models play an important role in the production forecasting and field development planning. To enhance their predictive capabilities and capture the uncertainties in model parameters, stochastic reservoir models should be calibrated to both geologic and flow observations. The...

Reservoir and geomechanical coupled simulation of CO2 sequestration and enhanced coalbed methane recovery
DownloadFall 2009
Coalbeds are an extremely complicated porous medium with characteristics of heterogeneity, dual porosity and stress sensitivity. In the past decades great achievements have been made to the simulation models of pressure depletion coalbed methane (CBM) recovery process and CO2 sequestration and...

Fall 2012
This thesis describes a methodology for process improvement of panelized home building production lines through increasing productivity and reducing production cycle time based on lean production and simulation tools. In panelized home building, panels are produced in a factory and then moved to...
-
The Application of Front End Planning and Special Purpose Simulation Templates to Drainage Tunnel Construction
DownloadSpring 2015
The Construction Industry Institute (CII) has a best practice under the heading “Front End Planning” (1995) that is meant to ensure that projects are as complete, as optimized, and as certain as possible throughout the project life cycle. In order to demonstrate this, the Project Definition...

The application of simulation methodologies on estimating gas emissions from construction equipment
DownloadSpring 2011
Construction contributes significantly to gas emissions. Diverse efforts have been undertaken to mitigate the effects of these emissions; however, there currently is no effective tool to estimate small-scale (e.g., project-based) emissions in construction. Discrete-event simulation (DES), a new...

The Development of Random Generators of Weather and Industrial Pipelines Data using Parametric and Non-Parametric Approaches
DownloadSpring 2017
Construction projects are unique and complex in nature. They are associated with many challenges regarding the randomness, complexity, and interdependency related to the operation/process, the environment hosting the operation, and the product being constructed. These challenges are also common...
