Programming Embedded 1-Wire Devices as Custom Remote Sensing Tools on Ethernet Networks

This project will remotely gather data from sensing devices, transmit it via a 1-wire network (described later) to an embedded device which will collect this data and transmit it via standard Ethernet to a server. The application of this technology could be adapted to a wide variety of purposes, such as remote sensing of conditions in manufacturing, oil and gas production environments, or security systems. Once the data is on an Ethernet network, the technology is well established to save, store, share, and act on that data. (As cited in backgrounder.)
