The Business of Aging: The Emergence and Legitimacy of Elder Care Organizations and Institutions in Ghana

  • Author(s) / Creator(s)
  • SSHRC PEG awarded 2019: We are applying to the Partnership Engage Grant in order to forge a partnership between the University of Alberta and Global Partners in Care (GPIC), an organization dedicated to enhancing access to palliative care globally, to launch a research program to explore the availability and appropriateness of emerging forms of elder care. Our interdisciplinary research team, consisting of a business scholar, an anthropologist and GPIC - which has robust partnerships across governments, universities, and organizations at the grassroots, national and international levels - allows us to draw from a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. We will focus our initial joint investigation in Ghana, where both the researchers and GPIC have deep connections and GPIC has identified as a location in need of further support. Accessing the subject matter expertise of GPIC and its partners in Ghana and around the globe will allow us to develop new and innovative models of culturally appropriate elder care.
