SSHRC Awarded IG 2012: This project will develop a detailed record of musicians and musical performances in Edmonton, which grew from a small town to a provincial capital and city of ca. 70,000 by the 1920s. But because Edmonton's music was part of a network of practices that linked Edmonton to central Canada, the United States, and indeed to the Euro-American musical world, it will also reveal the ways in which local history contributes to an understanding of music's place in the settlement of western North America and in the explosive growth of cities that characterized that settlement.
