SSHRC PEG awarded 2021: Families and youth who seek services through Catholic Social Services' Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Support programs are looking to reach important life goals such as learning to problem solve, maintain a budget, find and retain employment, or connect with a mentor. Importantly, motivation is a central construct to helping people achieve their goals (Elliot et al., 2017) and one that is often poorly understood by frontline care staff who have few opportunities to learn about achievement motivation and even fewer resources to support the integration of such theory into their daily work with vulnerable families and youth. Thus, the overall purpose of this Partnership Engage Grant is to explore how the rich theoretical and empirical body of knowledge in the field of achievement motivation can inform the important work of frontline care staff at the Catholic Social Services Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Support.
