SSHRC CG awarded 2021: The purpose of the proposed Connection Grant is to convene a one day conference and implementation dialogue that considers the key features of Alberta's present industrial transition in the oil and gas sector and draws on comparative policy learning to share leading just transitions practices and consider their application in Alberta. A public keynote panel will occur the night before. The conference will facilitate the multidirectional flow of knowledge among researchers, practitioners, unions, and academics, public and civil society actors; translate academic research for non-academic audiences; support the co-creation of knowledge; and support international research networks on just transitions. The conference will include keynote addresses and seminars on specific themes. Outputs will include conference proceedings and case study contributions on leading practices. Key findings and outcomes will be shared in short videos. Videos of the keynote speeches will be publicly available. This project meets SSHRC Connection Grant goals by convening diverse stakeholders in an interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and policy practice to implement a just transition in Alberta. It addresses SSHRC's future challenge areas of living within the earth's carrying capacity and governance systems that work.
