SSHRC IDG awarded 2023: Pakistan ranks poorly in the world when it comes to gender equality. Sociocultural barriers, limited access to schooling, and discriminatory gender norms have negatively impacted women’s socioeconomic development and inclusion in the formal financial system. Women play a major role in the transmission of financial skills to future generations and they also live longer than men, making financial literacy and numeracy essential for their economic wellbeing and empowerment. A qualitative community based participatory research approach will be used to actively engage underserved Pakistani women throughout the study. Study findings will inform the development of new and more effective financial learning programs for underserved women, contributing to evidencebased practice and the scholarly literature.
