Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Towards Accurate Density and Interfacial Tension Modeling for Carbon Dioxide/Water Mixtures
DownloadFall 2020
Phase behavior of carbon dioxide/water (CO2/H2O) binary mixtures plays an important role in various CO2-based industry processes, including CO2 injection for enhanced oil recovery and CO2 storage in saline aquifers. Engineering design of such processes requires an appropriate thermodynamic model...

Fall 2020
Many deep gas wells contain acid gas components. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is one of the typical acid gases. Accurate flow simulations for H2S/H2O mixtures in reservoirs and wellbores require a proper thermodynamic model that is capable of accurately modeling the H2S/H2O mixtures under in-situ...

Towards an Autonomous Robot-based Laser Cladding Repair Process: A Framework for Damage Detection, Localization and Path Planning
DownloadFall 2021
With piling scientific evidence and growing public concerns about climate change and depletion of natural resources, policymakers are being forced to implement stringent environmental regulations. One such sector under scrutiny for the concerning pace at which it is ...

Towards An Efficient Traffic System via CAVs: Demand Management and Real-time Traffic Control
DownloadSpring 2024
With the dramatically rising traffic congestion issue, people are suffering the loss of working hours, increase in traffic accidents and pollution around the world. In Canada, drivers in the major cities were estimated to lose over 50 working hours per year in congestion during 2022, and in the...

Fall 2009
Amorphous and crystalline silicon nanocomposites have been shown to act as effective “sensitizers” for erbium ions. In the present work, a series of erbium-doped (0.2 at.%) SiOx:Er films (x = 1 - 1.8) were synthesized by physical vapor deposition and subsequently annealed at temperatures ranging...
