This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Biochemical Imaging of Gliomas Using MR Spectroscopic Imaging for Radiotherapy Treatment Planning
DownloadSpring 2014
This thesis discusses the main obstacles facing wide clinical implementation of magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) as a tumor delineation tool for radiotherapy treatment planning, particularly for gliomas. These main obstacles are identified as 1. observer bias and poor...

Fall 2024
Non-commutative geometries motivated by string theory have enabled calculations of black hole properties distinctly different from those of classical gravity, such as a finite maximum temperature and a minimum mass, and horizon radius at which Hawking evaporation may terminate. In this thesis, we...

Fall 2018
In this thesis, based on the work of refs. [1, 2], we study the mass difference between the 1S spin-singlet and spin-triplet bottom quark-antiquark bound states within the effective theory of lattice non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD). The precise determination of this value, called...

Fall 2022
In this thesis, we consider a homogeneous and isotropic closed model of the Universe with a real massive scalar field. Hawking showed that if such a model of the Universe is fine-tuned, it can have an infinite number of bounces. We study the case for the Universe that is microscopically...

Bound State Phenomena: Positronium Molecule and Muon Decays, and the Electron Magnetic Moment
DownloadFall 2021
Particle physics is the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and their interactions. The study of bound states of elementary particles such as positronium and dipositronium, whose lifetime is short, is important for understanding properties of bound leptons with precision. The...

Cross-correlation of continuous seismic recordings has been proven effective in extracting the Green’s function between two seismic stations. Travel-time and waveform source migration calculations jointly suggest a persistent noise source near Lesser Slave Lake (LSL), a large ice-covered lake in...
