This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2023
In recent years, the growing concern over fossil fuel supply insecurity and its negative environmental impacts has led researchers to focus on advancing renewable energy technologies. Buildings, which account for a significant portion of global energy consumption, offer great potential for...

Spring 2023
Construction labour productivity (CLP) is a key performance indicator for determining the success of construction undertakings, and notably affects the profitability of construction companies. To this effect, the construction industry and researchers have pursued better ways of addressing the CLP...

Integer-Programming-Assisted Path-Float-Based Method for Time-Cost Tradeoff Optimization in Project Planning
DownloadFall 2019
In theory, time-cost tradeoff (TCT) optimization is a classic planning problem appealing to construction management; yet, existing analytical methods are found inadequate to make a significant impact in practice. Heuristic methods lack a theoretical basis to ensure arriving at optimum solutions...

Spring 2023
Finding optimal steam injection policies in the context of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) represents a major challenge due to the complex dynamics of the process. This complexity is reflected by: i) several concurrent sub-processes, e.g., heat transfer, counter-current flow, imbibition,...

Multi-Objective Optimization of the Steam Alternating Solvent (SAS) Process using Pareto-based Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms
DownloadSpring 2022
The Steam Alternating Solvent (SAS) process is a relatively new auspicious alternative recovery process to produce heavy oil and bitumen resources. This process consists of injecting steam and solvent (i.e. propane) alternatively using the same well configuration as the widely adopted...
