Internet Traffic is growing tremendously over the last few years. Although the long-term market behavior of the Internet is difficult to forecast, Internet traffic is clearly growing in a phenomenal progression. Traffic Engineering is deployed by large carriers to address the Internet growth challenge. It’s responsible for link bandwidth and for the size of the traffic flow when determining explicit routes across the backbone. Traffic engineering enables ISPs to route network traffic in such a way that they can offer the best service to their users in terms of throughput and delay. (As cited in abstract.)
