The Manufacture of Ceramic Building Materials from the Roman Fort at Hauarra (Modern Humayma, Jordan)

• This short article presents findings from a recent study of the ceramic building materials found in the second to fourth century AD Roman fort at Hauarra (modern Humayma, Jordan). While ubiquitous in the region, this material (i.e. bricks, cylindrical pipes, tubuli, and roof tiles) generally receives only cursory attention in excavation reports. As a result, little is known about the production, distribution, and use of ceramic building materials
  along the Limes Arabicus. This article, which focuses on the manufacturing processes of this material, attempts to address this gap in scholarship. It is hoped that this article will also serve to encourage further studies on ceramic building materials from Roman forts in the eastern provinces.
