• This paper proposes a review of definitions, regulations and international recommendations regarding, on one hand, to heritage, identity and cultural diversity and its protection, and, on the other hand, to public libraries. The comparative analysis of these texts reinforce the importance of the information units in charge of the recovery, conservation, protection and dissemination of human culture and memory. / D'une part, l'auteur propose une révision des définitions, des normes et des recommandations internationales relatives au patrimoine, à l'identité et à la diversité culturelle et à leur protection et, d'autre part, à la bibliothèque publique. Par leur analyse comparative, il souhaite faire ressortir le rôle important réservé aux services d'information qui se chargent de la récupération, de la conservation, de la protection et de la diffusion de la culture et de la mémoire humaines.
