This is the 2019 Library and Information Studies Students' Association's first iteration of a living document containing a statement for opening events, meetings, or gatherings that shows respect for and recognizes the histories of the Land the University of Alberta occupies. It also recognizes Indigenous peoples' enduring relationships with the Land.
The document also contains templates for adding situation and person/group specific components to Land Acknowledgments and provides suggested questions for reflection on these statements in order to create a meaningful Acknowledgements that lead to conversation, action, and discomfiting those who hear them.
The document also provides individual reflection questions, protocols to consider when delivering statements, questions and comments about the purpose of Acknowledgements, notes on structure, helpful resources, and definitions. -
