SSHRC Awarded CG 2017: This SSHRC Connections proposal brings together a diverse musical community--composers, ethnomusicologists, music educators, performers, and scholars--that have been influenced by the philosophies of renowned Hungarian composer, ethnomusicologist, educator, and philosopher, Zoltán Kodályat the 23rd International Kodály Symposium & Music Festival (August 2017), and subsequent Singing the Circle professional development workshops (November 2017). Stakeholders will engage in discourse related to the importance of singing and music education in society, from the time of birth to the end of life. The project addresses four avenues of inquirywithin the context of the following themes: (1) The Circle of Singing; (2) The Circle of Musicking; (3) The Circle of Teaching and Learning; and (4) Kodály's Expanding Circle.
