For the seventh consecutive year the China Institute at the University of Alberta (CIUA) has polled Albertans for their views on a wide range of issues related to the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This study stems from CIUA’s commitment to help foster a better understanding of China and its importance to Alberta and Canada. In conducting the Survey, the CIUA continued its work with the extensive “Alberta Survey,” conducted by the Population Research Laboratory of the University of Alberta. The set of questions applied in the 2017 Alberta Survey corresponds to the set used in 2011, 2013 and 2015. In addition, the CIUA examined two new topical questions. The first is centered on developing a prospective free trade agreement with China and the second on the need for students to develop skills and knowledge with regard to Asia.
