Les portraits innumérables de la vieillesse des femmes : une analyse de la littérature contemporaine

• Ce mémoire se propose d’étudier la littérature francophone contemporaine des femmes selon la perspective du vieillissement et de la vieillesse. Une analyse de L’album multicolore de Louise Dupré, « Je ne suis pas sortie de ma nuit » d’Annie Ernaux, Nullipare de Jane Sautière et Les Années d’Annie Ernaux nous amènera à explorer pourquoi la vieillesse des femmes est un sujet peu abordé en littérature et pourquoi cette littérature est importante. Ces œuvres intimes vont-elles à l’encontre des perceptions dominantes négatives de l’âge et peuvent-elles nous enseigner l’expérience vécue du phénomène du vieillir depuis une perspective genrée ? Je tâcherai de montrer qu’en partageant leurs récits, ces auteurs démontrent un savoir-vieillir et déstabilisent tranquillement nos idées préconçues des âges tardifs.

  This thesis proposes to observe contemporary francophone women’s literature through the lens of aging. The analysis of L’album multicolore by Louise Dupré, « Je ne suis pas sortie de ma nuit » by Annie Ernaux, Nullipare by Jane Sautière and Les Années by Annie Ernaux will help us to explore why women’s aging is a topic that is rarely broached in literature and why this literature is important. Do these works go against dominant negative perceptions of aging and can they teach us about the lived experience of the phenomenon of aging from a gendered perspective? I will endeavor to show that in sharing their stories, these authors demonstrate a “knowing how to age” and subtly destabilize our preconceived notions on old age and late life.
