Drottingholm Palace and gardens are located on Lovon Island. It is the private residence of the Swedish Royal Family. In the background of this image is the palace. In the foreground is the formal baroque garden, developed at the end of the 17th century. The rigidly trimmed pillars and low box hedges that outline geometric patterns, with walking paths, pools, sculptures and fountains reflect the French formal garden style of the time. To the left of the image is a recently replanted lime avenue. To the north of this garden area is an English-style landscape park.
