This thesis is a global and general review of the mineral resource natural graphite. Natural graphite is a critical raw material with a high economic importance for the European union. Natural graphite is used in high technology applications like anodes for electric vehicle lithium-ion batteries. The main aim of the thesis is to provide an advanced understanding of the mineral resource natural graphite. Different scientific models and theoretical approaches of the natural graphite formation are presented. A coherent description and evaluation of the mineralogy, regional and local geology of occurrences and deposits in the European Union is given. The technical extraction and beneficiation process is outlined. Facts and connections are visualized with flow schemes, tables and schematic graphics. Detailed case study examples illustrate and underline the topics of the thesis.
