  • This autobiographical case is a journey of the realization of a particular self-identity through the exploration of meaningful life stories, myself as subject. With the works of Groome (1980, 1998, 2002), Dewey (1938) and Palmer (2002) as a theoretical foundation, I present my identity as a Catholic teacher, in a school district that must continuously navigate in an increasingly secular society. As Parker Palmer (1998), points out, “we teach who we are”, therefore we must know who we are in order to most genuinely act out our identity within the classroom practice.
According to Dewey (1938), we learn from our experiences; these are part of what thrusts us to a greater understanding of ourselves in our faith. This research seeks to awaken in Catholic teachers and all other educators, the desire and the ability to step in the direction of discovery of their own identity through the exploration of life stories.
