Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Budnar Subramanya, Annapoorna Shruthi
Bitumen partial upgrading technologies aim to produce a product that meets viscosity and density specifications for pipeline transport with little to no addition of diluents. Thermal cracking processes are attractive for partial upgrading since they result in an increase in the light fractions....

Since prehistoric times, unsaturated plant oils, referred to as drying oils, have been used as a natural film forming material as result of oxidation-induced polymerization. Here, we report on the use of oleochemical reactions and photo-chemistry to develop three coating systems with low volatile...

Pain is the most common reason that patients frequent the Emergency Department. Pain is a complex symptom to assess properly and according to research, it appears to be poorly managed in the Emergency Department. The majority of research has focused on the incidence of oligoanalgesia in large...

Oligosaccharides production and purification from barley bran using sequential supercritical CO2 extraction, subcritical water hydrolysis and membrane filtration
DownloadSpring 2020
Barley bran is a by-product of the food industry, and a good source of lipid, protein and fiber. In this thesis research, fractionation of barley bran was carried out to remove lipid, starch and protein to obtain a sample enriched in fiber, specially arabinoxylan. Fiber concentrate was used for...

Oligosaccharides production from pea hull fiber using carboxylic acid-catalyzed subcritical water systems
DownloadSpring 2021
Valdivieso Ramirez, Carla Sofia
Production of pea into pea protein concentrates/isolates has dramatically increased due to changing dietary preferences of consumers, generating substantial amounts of pea hull as an underutilized co-product. Recently, pea hull was labeled as a ‘novel fiber’ by Health Canada due to its proven...

Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancers. Enriching broiler meat opportunities lack research on product quality. The fatty acid (FA) profile of birds fed flaxseed for various periods was analyzed. Another experiment assessed FA profile and...
