This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Design of Natural Ventilation Optimal Control System to Achieve Desirable Room Temperature and to Tolerate Uncertain Variants
DownloadSpring 2023
Natural ventilation models are becoming increasingly popular with increasing environmental awareness and the adverse effect of mechanical ventilation systems on the environment. Though simple in their working principle, natural ventilation models are challenging to control in meeting the thermal...

Design of Optimal Frameworks for Wideband/Multichannel Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks
DownloadSpring 2011
Several optimal detection frameworks for wideband/multichannel spectrum sensing in cognitive radio networks are proposed. All frameworks search for multiple secondary transmission opportunities over a number of narrowband channels, enhancing the secondary network performance while respecting the...

Fall 2019
The “Internet of Things” (IoT) promises to extend internet connectivity to billions of devices. A large number of these devices, such as wireless sensors, that will be wirelessly connected to the internet will not have a wired connection to the electricity grid relying on the energy stored in the...

Design of Steel Plate Shear Wall Systems with Explicit Consideration of Drift Demands and Frame Action
DownloadSpring 2017
This research presents a performance-based design procedure for steel plate shear wall (SPSW) systems with explicit consideration of plastic mechanisms, inelastic drift demands and frame actions. The proposed design procedure generally adopts the philosophy of a recently developed...

Spring 2019
This thesis describes new configurations of traveling wave antenna arrays. The ability of traveling wave antennas to integrate radiating element with transmission line in one single device which can be easily fed, are among reasons for popularity of such structures. Leaky-wave antennas (LWA) can...
