This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2016
Current clinical islet cell transplantation relies solely on human cadavers as a source of graft tissue. Much research has been focused on neonatal porcine islets as an alternative due to their ability to be mass-produced, showing strikingly similar physiology and biological activity to human...

Fall 2021
This thesis investigates how to bolster activity dependent neuronal plasticity in conjunction with rehabilitative motor therapy to increase recovery following spinal cord injury in rats. My work focuses primarily on the injured corticospinal tract (CST) and how boosting intracellular signalling...

Computational lexical semantics is a subfield of natural language processing (NLP) that deals with the study of meaning in language at the level of individual words or phrases using computational models and algorithms. Despite the recent success of large language models and contextualized word...

Augmenting Hypothermia Therapy for Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy in Neonates: Localizing Drug Delivery using pH and Temperature Responsive Nanoparticles
DownloadFall 2022
The obstruction of blood flow to regions of an infant brain leads to a reduction of oxygen and essential nutrients, causing what is known as hypoxic-ischemic (HI) damage to that region. Presently the only treatment available for affected neonates is hypothermia: head or whole-body cooling....

Spring 2017
The lack of literature reporting on the use of customer-satisfaction-augmenting Management System Standards (MSS) in health care provided an opportunity to explore the use of one such augmenting (AUG) MSS, namely ISO 10002, for managing feedback in a Canadian provincial health care organization...

Augmenting Plasticity and Recovery from Stroke by Modulating the Extracellular Matrix of the Central Nervous System
DownloadFall 2017
Recovery following stroke occurs almost entirely in the first weeks post injury. Moreover, the efficacy of rehabilitative training is limited beyond this narrow time frame. Sprouting of spared corticospinal tract axons in the spinal cord makes a significant contribution to sensorimotor recovery,...
