Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2015
Ischemic heart Disease (IHD) remains a major cause of illness and death worldwide. Therefore, therapeutic agents to protect against myocardial ischemia are needed. Arachidonic acid (AA) is metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) epoxygenase into the biologically active epoxyeicosatrienoic acids...

Mechanistic Basis for Enhanced Oncolytic Potency by Mutations in Reovirus Sigma1 and Mu2 proteins
DownloadSpring 2020
Wild-type mammalian orthoreoviruses (reoviruses) are non-pathogenic viruses infecting hosts via the respiratory and enteric tracts. There are four prototype reovirus strains: the Type 1 Lang (T1L), Type 2 Jones (T2J), Type 3 Abney (T3A), Type 3 Daring (T3D) and Type 4 Ndelle (T4N). A...

Mechanistic basis of plasmid-specific DNA binding of the F plasmid regulatory protein, TraM
DownloadFall 2014
The conjugative transfer of bacterial F plasmids relies on TraM, a plasmid-encoded protein that recognizes multiple DNA sites to recruit the plasmid to the conjugative pore. In spite of the high degree of amino acid sequence conservation between TraM proteins, many of these proteins have markedly...

Mechanistic Dissolution Modeling of a Poorly Soluble Drug; an Evaluation of Formulation Influence and Simulation Parameters for Enhancing Predictive Capability
DownloadFall 2019
In early drug development, the selection of a formulation platform and decisions on formulation strategies have to be made within a short timeframe and often with minimal use of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). At this stage, there is limited information available about the...

Fall 2012
Malignant gliomas (MG) are the most common and aggressive brain cancers. FABP7 is an intracellular lipid trafficking molecule whose expression correlates with reduced MG patient survival. FABP7 has been shown to increase the migratory behaviour of MG cells. Moreover, the migratory behaviour of...

Mechanistic Investigation, Development and Synthetic Applications of a Catalytic Enantioselective and Diastereoselective Allylboration Methodology
DownloadFall 2009
Over the past two decades and continuing on, carbonyl allylation chemistry has been a very useful and popular tool for the stereocontrolled formation of carbon-carbon bonds in the field of organic synthesis. In the context of natural product synthesis, the efficiency and status of aldehyde...

Mechanistic Simulation Study of Steam-Solvent Coinjection for Bitumen and Heavy-Oil Recovery
DownloadFall 2013
Solvent-steam coinjection has been proposed as an alternative to SAGD. Detailed oil recovery mechanisms of coinjection are little known due to complex interaction of phase behavior, and fluid and energy flow. This research conducts a detailed mechanistic study of phase behavior and its...
