This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2015
Solar energy holds great potential in securing humanity’s energy future in a sustainable manner. Unfortunately, the costs of silicon photovoltaics continue to impede the use of solar energy. Polymer solar cells (PSCs) can make solar energy more affordable due to their lower production costs....

On the impact of drought-induced abiotic stress on the composition of Douglas-fir lignin for valorization
DownloadFall 2022
Rising interest in the transition to renewable energy, materials, and chemicals ushers biorefining strategies that effectively utilize all components of lignocellulosic biomass feedstocks. Concurrently, more frequent and severe drought brought on by accelerating climate change pose questions...

Prediction of the Active Layer Nanomorphology in Polymer Solar Cells Using Molecular Dynamics Simulation
DownloadFall 2012
The most important factor that determines the efficiency of bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSC) is the active layer structure. Continuous domains of acceptor and donor material with thicknesses in the order of 10–30 nm must be formed to yield the highest efficiency in solar cells....

Role of the Composition of Cyclohexane-extracted gangue on its drying at ambient conditions
DownloadSpring 2020
Non-aqueous extraction (NAE) of bitumen from oil sands has recently regained interest as a replacement for the commercial, water-based extraction method. NAE has the potential to alleviate all the current water-induced extraction challenges such as high fresh water consumption, high heat...

Fall 2013
In this thesis, a cellulose nanofibril (CNF) preparation method in the biorefinery platform is described, and the product is characterized and compared to commercially available varieties. CNF is a bundle of cellulose microfibrils with diameter in 5-100 nanometer range and length reaching to...

Theoretical study on reactivity of different sulfide collectors and their binding affinity toward Cu(II), Zn(II) and Pb(II) ions.
DownloadSpring 2016
Collectors are one of the most important ingredients of froth flotation in mineral processing, as they selectively render the desired minerals more hydrophobic than others. Current crop of sulfide collectors interact with almost all sulfide minerals. This necessitates the use of complicated...
