This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Spring 2015
This thesis presents a thorough examination of the corrosion and fouling behaviour of crude oil at refining conditions on industrially applicable heat transfer surfaces. The depletion of light sweet crude oil reserves means that the processing of ever heavier and more sour crude oils is...

Corrosivity and Thermal Stability of Biocrude Oil for Co-Processing in FCC Feedlines: An Investigation and Risk Assessment
DownloadSpring 2023
Fast pyrolysis bio-oil is a promising renewable energy source derived from biomass. However, its high corrosivity and poor thermal stability have limited its widespread use as a drop-in fuel. One promising method for transforming low-quality biocrudes into drop-in fuels is co-processing with...

Cost-Effective Catalysts for the Electrochemical and Photoelectrochemical Reduction of Carbon Dioxide
DownloadFall 2019
The growing consumption of fossil resources has rapidly depleted fuel availability and increased CO2 emission, which presents two of the most prominent crises in the modern era. CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) at ambient conditions using electrochemical (EC) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) methods...

Spring 2010
Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) from the external surface of a buried pipeline is a serious matter and can cause significant economic and environmental losses. Despite of many research works which have been done on the understanding of crack initiation and propagation mechanisms, these mechanisms...

Crack Growth Behavior of Pipeline Steels under Variable Pressure Fluctuations in a Near-Neutral pH Environment
DownloadFall 2015
This research aims at understanding the crack propagation behavior of pipeline steels under variable pressure fluctuations in a near-neutral pH environment. Although pressure fluctuations have been recognized as the driving force for crack growth for more than two decades, the mechanisms...

Crack Growth Behaviour of Pipeline Steels under Variable Pressure Fluctuations in a High pH Environment
DownloadSpring 2021
High pH Stress Corrosion Cracking (HpHSCC) in the pipeline steel has been a threat for buried pipeline integrity since the first occurrence in the 1960s. Much research has been devoted to understanding the causes of this phenomenon and remedies for mitigation of HpHSCC failures. In addition to...

Fall 2022
Acid catalyzed olefin-aromatic alkylation is an alternative process to hydrotreating to reduce the olefin content thermally cracked naphtha produced during the partial upgrading of bitumen. Acid catalysis is not commonly employed for conversion of untreated cracked naphtha. This motivated the...
