Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2015
This study characterized two organic-rich source rock formations from three different sub-basins of the Georgina Basin, Central Australia, using the 187Re – 187Os isotope system and a suite of major, minor, and trace elements. The major organic-rich source rock in the Georgina Basin, the lower...

Fall 2023
Owing to the factors of low cost, abundance and lower emissions from natural gas as compared to diesel and gasoline, there has been a surged interest in utilizing natural gas for transportation purposes. Though it is known for natural gas to burn in a clean manner with considerably fewer...

Tiny Object Detection in Remote Sensing Images: End-to-End Super-Resolution and Object Detection with Deep Learning
DownloadFall 2020
In this thesis, we study the problem of detecting small objects on low-resolution (LR) satellite imagery. Small-object detection is a challenging problem, especially from LR images. To tackle the challenge, we propose a method to generate super-resolution images from low-resolution images and...

TiO2 Nanotube Arrays with Engineered Geometries: Growth, Characterization and Study of Selected Interfaces
DownloadSpring 2016
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a wide band gap, robust, n-type semiconductor whose transformation into vertically-oriented nanotube arrays makes them suitable electron percolation pathways for vectorial charge transfer togerther with high surface area. Growth of self-organized TiO2 nanotube arrays as...

Fall 2013
This thesis was intended to develop two tissue engineering approaches for cleft palate reconstruction. One approach focused on developing a cell-based therapy in vitro, using osteogenically induced mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The other approach focused on the delivery of bone morphogenetic...

Tissue-specific gene expression of two class III Arabidopsis peroxidases under aluminum stress
DownloadSpring 2010
Class III peroxidases have been identified as secreted proteins involved in plant defense, auxin metabolism, cell wall modification, and regulation of reactive oxygen species. Transcriptome analysis of Arabidopsis has identified many class III peroxidases that respond to aluminum stress. The...
