This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Cancer Targeting α-Peptides and Novel Peptidomimetic β-Peptides
DownloadFall 2010
Current cancer therapies have low specificity for tumor cells and have serious toxic side effects. Targeting drugs to the cancer cells can help improve the outcome of existing cancer therapies. In recent years, a number of peptides have been identified by peptide phage display for targeting...

Design, synthesis, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of glucosamine related compounds for the treatment of arthritis
DownloadFall 2013
There are several animal studies reporting strong disease-modifying effects and anti-inflammatory properties of glucosamine (GlcN). The anti-inflammatory properties of GlcN have suggested its use to treat inflammatory diseases such as adjuvant arthritis (AA). In this study, we showed that...

Fall 2011
The current status of the disease of tuberculosis (TB) demands a rapid, simple and inexpensive point-of-care detection. This study reported the designing of an enzyme linked immunoassay that could detect the antigen lipoarabinomannan (LAM), found to be present in different body fluids of the...

Designing Nanomedicines for Breast Cancer Therapy: New Synthetic lipopolymers and Optimization of siRNA Formulations against Therapeutic Targets
DownloadFall 2024
In 2020, breast cancer became the most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. Conventional therapies like radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery have significant limitations and side effects that are mainly due to their inability to specifically target cancerous cells. Alternatively, gene therapy...

Development and partial validation of a bioanalytical assay for the detection of a novel bone-targeting parathyroid hormone conjugate using metal-free LC-MS/MS
DownloadFall 2020
In an effort to address shortcomings with current drug treatments for osteoporosis (OP) and improve the efficacy of human parathyroid hormone (hPTH(1-34)), we have employed a bisphosphonate-conjugation strategy by tethering hPTH(1-34) to a non-nitrogenated bisphosphonate (BP) moiety (BP-PTH) in...
