This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Incorporating the effects of complex dynamic interactions in the construction decision making process
DownloadFall 2011
Construction projects involve complex interactions among operational components such as labour, materials and equipment and context or organizational components such as worker morale and organizational policies. Interactions among different components of construction projects form byzantine...

Fall 2023
Best practice guidance of dam safety management mandates the application of risk assessment in all stages of the lifecycle of dams: design, construction, operation, closure and post closure. Risk can be defined as a measure of the probability and severity of an adverse effect on the public,...

Incorporation of 3-D Mixing in Long-term Production Scheduling Optimization for Block Caving Mines
DownloadFall 2018
As open-pit mines go deeper, because of the massive amount of waste removal which is required to extract the ore as well as high operational costs per tonne, underground mining has become more attractive. Block caving is the only underground mining method that its production rates and...

Fall 2020
Multivariate techniques aim to integrate multiple variables and/or data in the same framework to improve uncertainty assessment in high resolution geostatistical models. The necessity to build models that better quantify the uncertainty with limited data that are often collected with different...

Fall 2013
Misfolded prions (PrPSc) are well known for their resistance to conventional decontamination processes. The potential risk of contamination of the water environment, as a result of the disposal of specified risk materials (SRM), has raised public concerns. Ozone is commonly utilized in the water...

Fall 2014
Considering nonstationary features in geostatistical modeling is important. Recent developments in nonlinear estimation provide a practical way to infuse geological realism into numerical modeling by incorporating complex spatial features. Second order nonstationarity when present must be...

Inflow and Outflow Rates Control in SAGD Wells: An Integrated Approach of Data-Driven and Physical-Based Analysis
DownloadSpring 2024
The utilization of the Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) method entails significant natural gas consumption and extensive water handling and treatment. The effective inflow and outflow rates control in producer and injector wells holds paramount importance. It serves multiple objectives,...

Influence of Fill Scheme on Oil Sands Tailings Consolidation Modelling in a Geotechnical Centrifuge
DownloadSpring 2021
A series of geotechnical centrifuge modelling experiments were conducted on a kaolinite slurry and treated fluid fine tailings (FFT) material to assess consolidation behaviour. Consolidation modelling for both materials was conducted using both a single and layered fill scheme, and the results...
