Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

A microscopic, transcriptomic, and phylogenetic investigation of the contractile vacuole of Reclinomonas americana (Jakobida, Discoba)
DownloadSpring 2023
The origin and timing of characteristic eukaryotic organelles is one of the key questions in the evolution of life on Earth. For the most part, widespread eukaryotic organelles (e.g., Golgi, mitochondria) have been inferred to be present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA) by examining...

A Mixed Integer Linear Programming Optimization Model for Capturing Expert Planning Style in Interstitial Low Dose Rate Prostate Brachytherapy
DownloadSpring 2017
Low dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy is a minimally invasive form of radiation therapy, used to treat prostate cancer, and it involves permanent implantation of radioactive sources (seeds) inside of the prostate gland. Treatment planning in brachytherapy involves a decision making process for the...

A MIXED WETTABILITY PORE SIZE DISTRIBUTION MODEL FOR THE ANALYSIS OF WATER TRANSPORT IN PEMFC MATERIALS
DownloadFall 2013
Mateo Villanueva, Pedro Abdiel
Water management on proton exchange membrane fuel cells is one of the biggest issues that stop the effective commercialization of this promising technology. Due to water flooding, the performance of fuel cells decays rapidly at high current densities. To better design fuel cell electrodes, a...

Fall 2020
This research involves the development of a forecasting model that will aid project managers in estimating the owner’s project management staff requirements for a construction project utilizing historical data. This will support project managers in the decisions of hiring new resources or working...

Spring 2016
This study illustrates a model for the implementation of a “Business-To-Consumer Electronic Commerce Transaction (B2C ECT)” system in a university course following the ISO 10008:2013 standard. Furthermore, this model includes four subsystems based on ISO 10001:2007 for a code of conduct, ISO...

A Model for the Solubility of Anhydrite in H2O-NaCl fluids from 25 to 800 °C, 0.1 to 1400 MPa, and 0 to 60 wt% NaCl: Applications to Hydrothermal Ore-forming Systems
DownloadFall 2021
Anhydrite (CaSO4) is a common gangue mineral in hydrothermal ore-forming systems, though currently there is no robust numerical model for the solubility of anhydrite in H2O-NaCl hydrothermal fluids. Here, we present a thermodynamic model for the solubility of anhydrite in saline aqueous fluids...

A Model for the Solubility of Minerals in Saline Aqueous Fluids in the Crust and Upper Mantle
DownloadFall 2018
Quantifying and predicting the dissolution of minerals in complex (multicomponent) aqueous fluids across wide ranges of P-T space is critical for interpreting geologic processes that involve water-rock interactions in the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. Here, we define a new thermodynamic model...
