This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2024
The modulation of resistance artery diameter is crucial for the regulation of tissue perfusion and systemic blood pressure. This is a multi-factorial process which necessitates the integrated activity of vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells. A wide variety of endothelial and smooth muscle...

Spring 2022
Background: Gut microbiota and diet, specifically fiber rich diets, have been associated with blood pressure regulation and cardiovascular health. Gut microbiota metabolize fiber into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) of which, acetate is the most abundant, followed by propionate and butyrate. It...

Regulation of mesenteric resistance artery diameter by pharmacological modulators of KCa channels
DownloadFall 2018
Background: The diameter of resistance arteries, and thus, tissue perfusion and blood pressure, is tightly regulated through the integrated activity of endothelial and smooth muscle cells, and sympathetic nerves. The endothelium regulates the contractility of smooth muscle cells by releasing...

Fall 2022
Background: This thesis encompasses two distinct projects. 1) von Willebrand factor (VWF) is a highly adhesive multimeric glycoprotein found in the Weibel-Palade bodies of endothelial cells and in ⍺-granules of megakaryocytes and platelets. At the site of vascular injury, VWF is essential for...

The role of intracellular calcium stores in the myogenic response of rat middle cerebral arteries
DownloadSpring 2012
The myogenic response is the ability of resistance arteries to constrict in response to blood pressure increases. As a key autoregulatory mechanism, this ability limits fluctuations in blood flow even when large blood pressure changes occur. The aim of my research is to examine the role of...
