The role of endothelial PI3 kinase activity and IQGAP1 in regulation of lymphocyte diapedesis
DownloadFall 2011
Leukocyte extravasation is a fundamental process of the inflammatory responses. The mechanisms that control remodelling of endothelial (EC) shape and adhesive contacts during leukocyte transendothelial migration (TEM) are not completely understood. We studied the role of EC phosphatidylinositol...

The role of eosinophils in the neonatal murine thymus; Expression of Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase
DownloadFall 2009
Rationale: Eosinophils are “end cell” leucocytes, associated with allergy, asthma and helminthiasis. At sites of inflammation, eosinophils may modulate immune response through expression of the extra-hepatic tryptophan-catabolising enzyme, Indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase (IDO). Kynurenines, products...

The adipocyte-derived lipokine, C16:1n7-palmitoleate, regulates a variety of functions such as systemic glucose and fatty acid metabolism. Under normal physiological conditions, palmitoleate levels are regulated by de novo lipogenesis. During pathological conditions where there are enhanced rates...

Fall 2022
Background The discovery of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) introduced an alternative protective arm of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), the ACE2/Angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7)/Mas receptor axis, to counterbalance the more renowned pathogenic angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)/Angiotensin...

Allergens possessing serine proteinase activity like house dust mite (HDM) and cockroach can activate proteinase-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2), a pro-inflammatory G-coupled receptor. Par-2 -/- mice develop attenuated airway inflammation compared to WT mice. PAR-2 blockage in the airways abrogated...
