Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Fall 2017
As a follow-up method after CHOPS (Cold Heavy Oil Production with Sands), CSI (Cyclic Solvent Injection) was widely accepted in the oil industry. After injected gas solvents with high pressure are dissolved in a heavy-oil reservoir, produced oil shows dispersed gas-phase in the oil, which is...

Spring 2024
Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) has proved to be a technically and commercially successful methodology for recovering heavy-oil in Canada. At present, there are 22 commercial SAGD projects with over 300 pads and 2,700 well pairs, contributing to over 1.5 million bbl/day of production. The...

Potential Hydrologic Impact of Climate Change to Athabasca River Basin based on Dynamically Downscaled Climate Scenarios of IPCC
DownloadFall 2014
To investigate the potential hydrologic impact of climate change on the Athabasca River Basin (ARB) of Alberta, Canada, the fully distributed physically based model, Modified Interactions Soil-Biosphere-Atmosphere (MISBA) land surface scheme of Kerkhoven and Gan (2006) was driven with two SRES...

Potential impact of climate change to the future climate and streamflow of the Mackenzie River Basin
DownloadFall 2016
The Mackenzie River provides a critical corridor for Canada’s Arctic transportation network and the Mackenzie River Basin (MRB), the largest river basin of Canada, has been subjected to the impact of climate change. In this study, we have investigated the potential impacts of climate change on...

Fall 2015
With the widespread use of nanoparticles (NPs) in commercial products, it is inevitable that NPs will be released into and accumulated in domestic and industrial waste streams (such as wastewater treatment systems), which might have unknown effects. To determine the effects of Ag NPs on the...
-
Spring 2016
Nano-silver is the most popular nanomaterial in commercial products. However, its wide use also becomes a concern because Ag-NPs can have potential adverse effects on biological wastewater treatment processes due to its strong antibacterial property. Considerable efforts have been made to study...

Spring 2016
Potholes are one of the most concerning deteriorations of asphalt pavement in cold climatic regions. Repair of potholes is an important form of maintenance operations for asphalt pavements conducted by most of the transportation agencies. Although a large number of previous researches including...
-
Fall 2016
Best practice and recommendations for multiple point statistics (MPS) simulation are presented. Three main contributions are: (1) assessing the stationarity of training images (TI) and determining the characteristics of TI's that result in realizations that reproduce features found in the TI; (2)...

Practical Integration of Data-Driven Models for Production Analysis and Inference of Reservoir Heterogeneities in SAGD Operations
DownloadSpring 2018
Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technique has been widely adopted for heavy oil production. However, SAGD performance is strongly affected by reservoir heterogeneities, such as shale barriers and lean zones, as they are often detrimental to SAGD production efficiency. Therefore, it is...

Spring 2010
Ranking of multiple realizations is an important step when the processing time for a realization is large. This is the case in reservoir flow simulation and in other areas of geology, environmental and even medical applications. Significant uncertainty exists in all reservoirs especially at...
