This decommissioned ERA site remains active temporarily to support our final migration steps to https://ualberta.scholaris.ca, ERA's new home. All new collections and items, including Spring 2025 theses, are at that site. For assistance, please contact erahelp@ualberta.ca.
Theses and Dissertations
This collection contains theses and dissertations of graduate students of the University of Alberta. The collection contains a very large number of theses electronically available that were granted from 1947 to 2009, 90% of theses granted from 2009-2014, and 100% of theses granted from April 2014 to the present (as long as the theses are not under temporary embargo by agreement with the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies). IMPORTANT NOTE: To conduct a comprehensive search of all UofA theses granted and in University of Alberta Libraries collections, search the library catalogue at www.library.ualberta.ca - you may search by Author, Title, Keyword, or search by Department.
To retrieve all theses and dissertations associated with a specific department from the library catalogue, choose 'Advanced' and keyword search "university of alberta dept of english" OR "university of alberta department of english" (for example). Past graduates who wish to have their thesis or dissertation added to this collection can contact us at erahelp@ualberta.ca.

Monitoring Airborne Inoculum of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum at Canola Flowering and Relationships to Weather Conditions and Disease Incidence and Severity
DownloadFall 2022
Sclerotinia stem rot, caused by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, is an important disease of canola (Brassica napus). Disease development is highly dependent on weather conditions and is initiated by infection of the petals by airborne ascospores, followed by mycelial progression into leaf and stem...

Monitoring insect diversity and parasitism levels in alfalfa seed production fields in western Canada
DownloadFall 2022
Alfalfa, Medicago sativa (L.) (Fabales: Fabaceae), is an excellent source of high protein feed for livestock. Canada is the second largest producer of alfalfa seed (4.2 M kg/year) in the world, with the vast majority of production concentrated in the province of Alberta. The productivity of these...

Multifunctional Self-Healing Hydrogels Based on Natural Polymers for Biomedical Applications
DownloadFall 2019
Hydrogel is a chemically or physically cross-linked hydrophilic three-dimensional (3D) polymer network. Classic hydrogels with irreversibly cross-linked polymer networks cannot heal after rupture, leading to degradation and deterioration in their functions over time. In contrast, self-healing...

Muscle Abnormalities in cancer patients: Exploring the biological characteristics of skeletal muscle of cancer patients
DownloadFall 2019
Computed tomography-derived muscle measures of sarcopenia and low muscle radiodensity have been associated with poor outcomes in cancer patients, however, the biological characteristics of the muscle in this population are not well understood. This research was conducted to first evaluate muscle...
