When the fireweed seed pods dry and crack open, each pod releases a large volume of fluff for its size. The wind then disperses the seeds and fluff.

After the fireweed flowers have dropped, the purple-red seed pods are left. These eventually break open to release seeds with fluff attached. The seeds are blown by the wind.
